What did you get done today?

It was upper 50s here today.

I took a day off from moving brush and worked on getting equipment ready for winter. I took the 44 EFI out for a drive, then changed oil and put it away for the winter. I then got the Scag serviced, it has one more mowing to do, but the weather is so nice do not want to miss out. I need to pick up the LX288 that I gave to my uncle and service it this upcoming week, then wash and put heat houser on the 6610.

Then back to clearing.

I have a break from harvesting, as there is enough help right now.

Today it was 31/35.We started out the day, doing a little hay hauling down the road with the old flatbed truck, then the rest of the day we were finishing up some fencing, using the 585 on the PHD,and the 8n for dragging around the supply trailer.Just came in the house after a couple little things and bringing the farm dog in the barn.

Removed the hyd. manifold from the Ford and extracted the pressure tube from the transmission. Please excuse the cell phone pics. Jeez, I hope this works....

Worked until 12, picked up boom pole for my tractor on the way home. Paid auction house for the buy. Split a few pieces of wood from the pile for an evening fire. Didn't want to get into the big stack "weatherized" on the porch. Cleaned up, do it again tomorrow.

I started chopping sorghum. The field is on the back of the farm and the best way to get to it is through the neighbors. Almost 1 mile trip of rough field lane. Working alone so it takes an hour per load between chopping and hauling and bagging. Did get seven loads done which is not to bad with getting equipment out and the silage bagger set up and going. Tom

Well I got a heat light bulb put in the well house
Fixed a water pipe going to the horses where it was leaking
Aired up the rear tire on the Oliver S88 and put it in the machine shed and put it up on a jack so if the tire goes flat again it will not sit flat
Was going to go out deer hunting but it was to windy so I didn't and I did not see any deer in the area I would have gone

I goofed off today, drove the Redneck Ratrod to a plow day to visit with friends, watched some plowing, had dinner, then drove home. Was 102 miles round trip.

I did some more welding. Years ago I bought a 9 shank V ripper and cut the frame down to make it 5 shanks. I don’t need it anymore, so I sold it. A guy looked at it but he just wanted 1 shank to run along the trees at the edge of the field. I told him that I had enough pieces laying around that I could make what he wants. Got the hitch welded on, he wants a rolling coulter on it, I got that welded on today. Getting closer to done with it.

I went up to the farm and rebuilt the #1 frog on the plow. It catches heck in our limestone based fields. I caught a rock and broke the frog into 2 pieces back on Thursday. I got it all reconstructed and put back onto my plow, but after the Friday afternoon rain and following 3" of snow (some still remaining), it was just too greasy to plow today, and quit after 2 bouts.
The wifey and I took a ride in the Dakota 4x4 this evening and I scouted out a couple of other fields that look much drier. I will head for one of them tomorrow morning and keep my fingers crossed that I don't have any break downs.

This field is also pretty steep especially on the backside.

Slept late (got up just past seven!), had breakfast, went to Sam's Club and had tires put on the wife's car (last time for that, took 1:45!!). Went up to church for "trunk or treat ', sold cakes, pies raising money for Christian Education committee, had hot dogs, chips, soup, drinks to sell. We cleared about $400, so not bad!! Trying to stay awake, but not gonna happen, eyelids are getting heavy.

A couple more pictures. I still have to weld feet on the stands and I will build up the worn edge on the shank. Not looking forward to getting the rusty wheel adjustment bolt freed up.

12 hours sitting in the combine, doing corn. Going well, but slow, moisture is still high. A good weather week ahead.

Went to PPNCI club plow day held at Rolla Trent's s/o Amboy, IN. Good turn out with 5,4,3,2 and 1 bottom configurations of about all brand of tractors. Breakfast was served in machine shop on-site. Ground seemed very good considering the hard freeze overnite. Left as lunch was getting ready to be served. Worked in yard as the temps held around 55 deg. Not bad for central Indiana this time of year.

Worked on the hydraulic hoses on the JD 855 loader, mechanic bought my IH 464 back after doing some things to it.Buddy in the tree business bought me some large chunks of Oak and cut up an Oak that was blocking the road up into the mountain, sold 3 garden tractors, had a full day.

More cleanup around the place. Dragged my disc out from under the big shed. Now I can stuff my hay inverter, third Farmall H & tater digger in there. Then I'll have room for the Stackliner in the barn with my two big tractors, baler, binder, silo blower, Ma's Cub & all the other crap I've accumulated over the decades. Still wish I could figure out some kind of cheap storage for my two threshers. Tarps & canvases just don't last on all those edges & pointy corners.

Got a text at 6:00 this morning, friend broke down about 50 miles south of here. Took him tools, went and bought a $240 alternator. We put it on in a parking lot, got him on his way.

Was supposed to go work at 9:00, that came and went, called in, they said don't come in, I was glad.

Went and looked at another friends ice maker and the air conditioner on his Toyota not working. He needs a new ice maker, and possible a relay or pressure switch on the Toyota. Gotta go back next week and check it, see if he wants to spend the money on the ice maker.

Started working on getting a retirement pension started, got to get my certified birth certificate, wife's certified birth certificate, certified copy of marriage certificate, certified copy of ex divorce papers, put your left foot in, take your right foot out, walk backward through the discombublator... For what it's worth almost not worth it, I think that's the general idea!

Now I'm sitting in the recliner staring down a bowl of left over candy. It's gotta be eaten, might as well be me!

Last Saturday had a service call on a no crank MF285 I got the parts in Friday built the starter and installed it today. I took care of all the debris from this weeks storm, cleaned all the gutters on my shops, fixed a loose piece of tin on a storage building, found a screw that had backed out on the metal roof on my main shop replaced it and checked the others. I fired up my generator for a test run, I cooked a steak came back to the shop to do some book work got quite a bit done I can not log on tho the banks web site to get my bank statement : (...

It did not take me long to pick up the limbs the pine straw in the gutters was a beach to get out they were loaded up... Its been a long time since I built a starter the local starter repair shop closed up it was not bad to do its a Delco Remy the bad its weighs 52lbs... A set of brushes a seal a good cleaning and turn the armature was all it needed $10 in parts and $215.00 in labor. A replacement will run in the 3's to 500 does not include tax/shipping/labor so I took the chance it worked out great..

The customer is a doctor in the military I get all my medical questions answered FREE... When I work on a stinking diesel I ware a machinist apron to keep the diesel off of me... His kid a 8 year old said I got an apron he ran to the barn and got it on... It made me feel good he wanted to be like me... His mom and dad are both doctors I spec he can be anything he wants to be...

Yes it is pretty nice feed. It looked brown top to bottom and while chopping leaves were blowing everywhere but the silage bagger was still making some juice in the bottom. Should ferment into some good beef cow feed. Last year we did not chop it untill the beginning of Dec. Sure was a lot nicer today than then. Tom

I finally got the last wagon of oats unloaded into the granary.

Loaded up 6 bales of straw and delivered to relative.

Looked around the farm and realized corn was showing out of a wagon. Looked closer and saw neighbor had harvested more of my corn, filled three wagons so I got the tractor out and ran each of them up to the elevator.

Not too much work for sure, but I broke a rib and cracked a second 4 weeks ago unloading an oats wagon, so this was a very full day for me, lot of up and down and tugging at stuff.

Helped my son put a wet kit on the truck he bought, then did a 1 1/2 hour long grease job on the front axle under the hay rack. You probably have the grease job figured out already. Heated the spindles so I could drop them out to shine off the rust then reinstall. Oh ya, shot a couple of possums. Rich you didnt drop them off at the end of my lane just to be ornery did you?

Question for you. My GE ice maker just quit. What should I look for? I am ready to find ice cube trays. Stan

Finished combining corn. 15.2 moisture...was 13.4 before we got 6" of snow a couple weeks ago. Finished chopping corn stalks too. Do some tillage next week. E SD.

Replaced 18’ of 4” drainage tile with 20’ of 12”. Runs between road and large burr oak. Digging out the old pipe went well but lowering the grade 2” in yellow clay, occasional spots of road gravel, one a couple oak roots was some work. Toady I make grates for the ends out of expanded metal and shovel all that soil back over it.

When I am done the perpetual mud hole in the front yard should be reduced a bit.

I went to church to scope out a repair job that I need to do. I found that the building was warm. Last Sunday someone had raised a thermostat to 72 degrees and set it on hold and then forgot about it. Then I came home and I did some more jacking under my old post and beam bank barn.

Finished putting the boards down on a section of floor where an old beam had broken. Here is the new beam rolling into position at the far end.

Stan, it's almost always a malfunction of the ice maker itself.

As long as you know the water supply is still on, and the freezer is getting cold as it should, and there is not a problem with ice build up, it's a reasonable assumption a new ice maker will fix it.

On the popular models, there are factory units, and after market units. After market are about 1/2 the price but have a bad reputation for short life.

You can order the ice maker by a part number under the plastic cover, or by the refrigerator model number.

GE makes a lot of different models, see if this looks like yours. If not look around Youtube until you find your type ice maker, there are only about 3 or 4 different makes.

Saw you come in as I was making the last round of "howdys". Always inclined to eat to much at these events. Brought donuts for the breakfast session and already had an iced cake donut. Those home-made cinnamon rolls sure looked inviting.

Nice job, I have to do this repair on a 641 I have. Where did you source your replacement tube? How did you install the replacement tube?
