Same as most any draft control. Whether it's pulling against a torsion bar, or spring, the heavier the pull, the hydraulic system is activated through linkage, to lift. With AC it started with the WD, and it really did work. Then with the WD45 you had a gauge so you didn't have to guess where to set the system. D17 was configured somewhat differently, but was the same system.
