That is the famous Ford flathead V-8, used 1932 to 1953. There are only 3 exhaust ports on each side. The center two cylinders both exhaust through the same port. Since the exhaust port goes through the water jacket, these engines had a heating problem that really was never solved, in spite of different water pumps, radiators, and fans. Whenever you pull the head off one of these, you are very likely to find a crack between the two center valve seats, and often down into the cylinder wall. If you could keep them cool, they were a great engine, and extremely quiet - no push rods, no rocker arms. They have made a comeback in recent years - many new and improved parts, and tons of history.
