The inside of the cylinder bore MAY or MAYNOT be chrome plated, same with the piston rod. The cylinder the water came out of I would definitely NOT hook up to my tractor's hyd system. Depends on how old they are.
I used to do a lot of work with a company that specializes in chrome plating the inside of steel, copper, nickle, stainless steel, you name it, also chrome plated cylinder rod bar stock. They even built their own homes to hone the tubing. They were bragging one time I was there, they chromed a 3/4" diameter hole almost 40 feet long. Anyhow, new cylinders are chromed, the only thing I'd use.
