I hear ya Brent. I taught school for 31 years, high school, junior high and in a detention facility. One thing I learned early on was that you didn't have much choice as to who your principal would be or what kind of a person he/she was, that was out of your control for job satisfaction. But the one thing you did have control over was to treat the school's support staff with respect and courtesy, talk with them every time you see them in the halls with at least a hello and if possible, check in with their lives in the community and with their family. So that would be teacher special needs helpers, secretaries, tradesmen who came and went, but MOST important of all were the care taking custodial staff. Make friends with them right away, show them friendship and your life in the school will be a dream. They'll bend over backwards for you and never let you down should you need help with anything. I had some who confided in me that there were some teaching staff that had never spoken a word with them.
