I'm like you, background in electronic and mechanical skills. In my younger years I drove beater cars and trucks. Parts were expensive so I rebuilt starters, alternators, engines. I Went shopping for used parts at auto salvage. Auto Zone was a game changer, parts were cheaper and they came with lifetime warranty. Auto Zone put a lot of private parts stores charging outrageous prices and no warranty.
I had to retire 16 years ago before I bought my first new car. Since then I've bought a new Kubota, a second new Cadillac and GMC truck. Life is good and good memories. George
