Thanks for everyone's advice. The other corner of the tube is not split but my plan was to run a piece of angle on that corner also since I figure a split is just a matter of time. I figured that I'd have to grind back to bare steel and also hit one side of the split to push that side back to improve alignment. I'm glad to hear that you think my 120v welder is up to the task.
I'm curious to know what are the benefits of the E6011 vs. E7014 welding rods? Is the amount of rust and rot a determining factor in picking the best rod or are there other reasons?
