Do you have a phone that will record video? Can you make a video of the starter and the noise it is making and play it for the last shop that worked on it?
If that is not possible, maybe someone could come out and listen to it.
I'm thinking maybe an internal connection breaking down under load, something binding the drive gear where it spirals into the flywheel, wrong tooth count on the drive... Impossible to say without hearing it.
How did this start? Was it working and gradually got worse? Started doing it all of a sudden? Was the starter swapped for a rebuilt, repaired and came back doing this?
