I had a bum knee for years - dumped a motorcycle when I was 20. At about 55 I was having quite a bit of pain and it was limiting my get up and go. My doctor recommended waiting till I was 60 to reduce the probability of having to redo it in the future. So I did. After the surgery the doctor asked why in the world I waited so long. As far as what you can and can't do. Your knee does a pretty good job of telling you what you should or shouldn't do. I can kneel on my replaced knee but do it only when I have to. I usually kneel on my other knee. If I had them both replaced I'd probably opt for knee pads to cushion my knees.
