If your 580CK has an ammeter (I don't think it does), old gave you the right answer; hook up to the ammeter and forget the light.
Install a voltmeter if that is what you want. I don't know who told you it was over kill but I didn't. A voltmeter would be simpler and better than a charge indicator light in my opinion. I have been trying to answer your questions, in your other posts, about how to hook up your 580CK charging light. Power side terminal of a voltmeter to the ignition switch and ground to the other terminal - and its done.
As for a charge indicator light. The light socket has to be an insulated base with two wire leads. One wire hooks to the ignition switch and the other wire goes to the #1 terminal on the alternator. This will work on at least some of the one wire alternators that have the spade terminals under the rubber plug. It may not work on all of them.
