1991 era Ford 4x4 Explorers and Ranger pickups used a radius arm to support the front axle. When the bushings wore out the front ends got real noisy. The bushings where the arms connected to the frame were installed before the front axle, meaning when they loosened up it was a big job to change them. These were just the thing for a redneck fix. Pry the gap open, drop one or two on the shaft on each side, and it tightened it right up. After 200k on those old vehicles you did what was quick and cheap to keep them going.
