Are these things as worthless as they look? I?ve seen them around for years today I took a minute to open the package and see how crappy they are made . Has anybody ever used them ?

They are what they are, a soft washer. If you need to slide one in behind because you don't want to take something apart they will work as long as soft steel will work. You open then to put them on the close and tap the tab in to hold it so it won't open. They have limited uses.

I remember Dad using one as a washer over 40 years ago . I cant remember what he used it on but it worked. I remember him showing it to me and us discussing it. He used on something that would have been difficult and time consuming to take apart to install a washer. I wish I could remember what he used it on. I just remember it seemed well made, it was made in the USA, and it worked!

I will be looking for one when I open the two speed shift on my 700. Has excess end play making exact adjustment to prevent jumping out oh high range.

If you ever had a wore out hay baler you would appreciate them. Place on a baler that it would take half day to remove a shaft but you can stick one of those in there and tighten things up and keep going.. They definitely have their place.

In today's world and machinery they probably have little use but I remeber seeing them used a lot on older machinery particularly if it had open bevel gearing they were used to keep the mesh right as things wore. My old Oliver 5 picker has a handful of them in different places. Hay rakes was another common place to see them used.

That one looks to junk.Tho the American made washers are better.Have used them alot of times to keep a piece of equipment going for the day before having to repair it. (Example) Putting one on the shaft of a grain drill slip clutch to get the field planted.I worked in a feed mill/farm store and stocked alot of them in different sizes and thickness. On today's modern equipment would be not used but our old stuff has it place.

Some comments say it looks like junk. Hmmmm, maybe the Made in China printing on the label has something to do with that. How could you tell by looking at it if it was junk? Maybe someone could post a picture of a high quality one for us. Obviouslly, we are forgetting exactly what it is made and used for and for how long.

Used a lot of them. The ones with the hinge like that are the good ones, just open the hinge and slide on shaft then close hinge and tap the lock into place. Some are made withoy the hinge and you have to sqeese them shut befor you can close up the lock. Can last for the life of the machine and them some. Untill last year when I had to move I kept a supply of different ones on hand as I used that many of them.

1991 era Ford 4x4 Explorers and Ranger pickups used a radius arm to support the front axle. When the bushings wore out the front ends got real noisy. The bushings where the arms connected to the frame were installed before the front axle, meaning when they loosened up it was a big job to change them. These were just the thing for a redneck fix. Pry the gap open, drop one or two on the shaft on each side, and it tightened it right up. After 200k on those old vehicles you did what was quick and cheap to keep them going.

Pretty common repair back in the good old days.

They're harder to get off than they are to get on.

I've used them, for me the best thing was to put a little weld where they go back together. Kept them from opening up at an inopportune time.

Has nothing to with the label it has to do with the hinge pin is just swelled In the hole rather than pin clear through and clenched on both sides

SVC .... well yeah, if you say so, all I see is a picture. Considering what they're used for, probably in most cases likely good enough for a quick and perhaps a temporary fix, I'm sure they get the job done. Thanks for the clarification though ......
