I have a 2000 and a 2001 Ram 1500. Both 4x4. The 2001 is my plow truck, and the 2000 was bought as a backup. Both run and operate exceptionally well! In the past we've had a 1994 Chevy 1500, a 1996 GMC Suburban 3/4-ton, and our current town truck, a 2004 Chevy 1500. NONE of the trucks can compare with the 4x4 of the Dodge trucks.
Also, all this new push-button crap on newer trucks. In my plow trucks, I plow in 4-hi, with no chains or studded tires; just plain old all-season radials. When I get stuck, I just have to shift into Neutral, then move the floor selector to 4-lo. Presto, I'm out! With the 2004 Chevy, (and with the 1996 Suburban, also push-button), the truck has to be moving in a specified speed in order for it to shift ranges. The Dodge trucks can shift from 2wd to 4-hi to 4-lo, all while sitting in the same spot. That said, if you're needing to shift on the go, then push button is better.
An added perk is, when I got the 2000, the guy who owned it was a local race car driver/builder. He had that truck in PERFECT running condition! He was thrilled that I didn't haggle on the price. I was thrilled I got such a gem for so cheap, even if it had a little body cancer.
