We have those all over the place at work. Lovejoy makes a bunch of different types and it sounds like yours are a little out of whack. Too tight or are "working" and generating heat. This is their video. Way overkill but you will understand. They need a tiny bit of flex. Remember,these are not a universal joint. They provide just a little flex and give in drive systems. They also have rubber and hard plastic spiders.
