A gennys armature is more of a current then it is a voltage device and its output depends (among other things) on how many amps of current is passed through the field coils. SO YES ITS POSSIBLE TO USE A COMPATIBLE 6 VOLT ARMATURE IN A 12 VOLT GENERATOR. The Field coils are more important then the armature in determining output although sure BOTH are important.
NOTE I have successfully used non modified 6 volt gennys to charge a 12 volt battery simply by changing to a 12 volt Voltage Regulator Im NOT saying its ideal or perfect Im ONLY saying it works. Its best to have a shop change out the fields and armature if necessary to convert from a 6 to a 12 volt genny.
