In Michigan bait piles were regulated for size (5 gallon bucket). Now with the CWD crisis looming, it has been banned altogether. Thought process is that bait piles will bring deer into close contact and spread the disease. Plots are spread over a wider area, so deer not so likely to be in close contact. As far as plots, grain spills, unharvested crops, and an occasional apple tree in the fencerow, they would be about impossible to regulate. No bating thing has some hunters in a tizzy because they don't think they can hunt without a pile. Phooey! I've hunted with and without, and without is just a successful and less work. Don't miss bating one bit.
