The cap doesn't thread out of the cylinder. Look in the little slot to see if you can see the end of the retainer wire. If the end of the wire is not visible rotate the end cap with a pipe wrench or spanner wrench until you find the end of the wire. Take a small screw driver and pry the end of the wire up out of the groove, and then rotate the end cap to feed the wire out of the cylinder. After the retainer wire is removed pull on the shaft to pop the end cap out. It may take a come along, or tractor to pull it apart.
