I like to use a small indicator light hooked into the white #1 wire near where it hooks to the ign switch, this allows you to retain the stock switch. These little 2 wire indicator lamps are avalible at most auto parts stores. You want to use one that takes an auto dash light type bulb, it will restrict the backflow enough so the ign will shut down and allow the engine to stop. A replacement bulb is avalible at any auto parts department for a few cents,while a diode often is harder to find. Plus it gives you a visual indication that 1 the alternator is or is not working 2 it serves as a visual reminder if you have left the ign switch on.
