In my experience it is much like any other diesel engine in that it generates a great deal more power at operating speeds than at idle, but it is certainly not a slouch, even at idle. Although I certainly have not spoken to every one, I've never spoken to an owner of one of these Olivers who wasn't happy with it. It was not by any means an experimental engine. It was built in variations (#of cylinders, displacement) for many years and powered semi tractors, farm tractors, construction equipment and power units. The only thing that makes it unique is that it is a 2 cycle diesel.
