Actually, if I recall my reading correctly, it was Allis Chalmers that was working with the Fuel Cell technology, and I know for sure IH was fooling with a turbine. Ford may have as well. I'm not aware of any other unusual engine technology, most of them were internal combustion of one layout or another. Some interesting methods of power transmission were tryed at one time or another, such as moving the motor forware or back in the frame to engage/disengage the ground drive.
