The very first bald eagle I ever saw was carrying a 1.1/2-2" dia. piece of fire wood he must of pilfered off somebody's wood pile. No wonder thieving has gotten so bad in this country...our very own national emblem! Where does it end?!
We've lived here for 30 or so years and never seen eagles until the past several years. We usually have a couple sightings a year now. We're not all that far from St. Joe/Benton Harbor area. at least not that far as the...er eagle flies? So maybe their the same ones K effective mentioned.
I've heard that Benjamin Franklin preferred the turkey over the bald eagle as our national bird. Wish I could remember who it was.
