NEW McCormick tractors

Just read an article about CNH Global. It seems that w/ the merger they had to sell off some of their equipment lines. Landini bought the caseih line and combined w/Vermeer to manufacture these tractors in the us under McCormick Tractors International. This all sounded good until I read the part about McCormick making changes including taking out the cummins engine and putting in a perkins. Why would they do this? The cummins is a superior engine. Also I didn't see what tractors CNH would be producing from this article. Just wondering if any body had heard? This article is from Jan. 2002 Farm Journal.
