12volt battery will work fine. just remember the 5 second rule. start it for 5 seconds and if it doesn't start wait 5 seconds ad try it again. this will minimize any damage to the starter. neg ground. I would recommend that if its has a gen and voltage reg unhook one wire from gen before you start just for safety precaution. I hope you have checked on parts for those. they say these not much out there for them. good luck.
