Well, I don't know where you all got your info....BUT...
Tetra Ethyl Lead did ofcourse increase the Octane of the gas....BUT it was IN the Gas to Lubricate ( i.e.-prevent wear of ) the VALVES..
If it was not necessary, do you think Aviation engines would STILL be required to use it.??
Piston type ofcourse, and they only operate at under 2,300 RPM...
I'd prefer to error on the "safe" side....
