It was just announced this week that Minnesota got a pretty big chunk of some government grants from the ag division. The Secratary of Ag was even in the satae, and _everyone_ is gushing about how this is so good for the state & for us rural folks.

The money is earmarked for putting in rural water systems.

To me, this means:

1. Land given up for easements.
2. More taxes to complete/maintain the system.
3. Tile drainage systems ruined/ more expensive to put in new tile around the easments
4. Monthly bill forced on us.
5. Water rationing as the system can't keep up with very seasonal demands in rural areas.
6. Killing off our current private wells as huge 'rural municipal' wells deplete certain water veins.
7. Increased urbanization of remote local areas as water access is easy for a single home - will be difficult to get permits to use for larger livestock operations tho.

All in all, I see this as a TOTAL negative for rural areas. It will kill them with 'kindness.' Yuk.

I do enjoy your light-hearted coments. Sorry I sound negative, but every 1/2 hour on the radio I hear again how _wonderful_ this government money is for all of us. I think it is another nail in the true rural way of life. Wish they would have asked anyone who actually _lives_ out here in the country. So far it's just the city folks telling us how wonderful this lousy program is.
