the 8n wash mfg in 1948 as a result harry ferguson and henry fords verbal agreement to share the 3 plt hitch sys and its attachments the quickest way to identify is to look at the rear wheels as they are steel an d not cast iron and the bolt patteern is different as is everything else is different also the 8 n was 4 speed and the 9n and 2n were 3 speed trans if you wanted to go faster in any gear sherman conversions were mfg and installed and incidently this increases the value of a 8n or 9n to the date as i have owned and restored both of these tractors along with many more in my shop now im in the plrocess of restoring nice little jd la 1942 model thanks
