I have used both. I prefer surge brakes. I have 5 different vehicle that all tow [small business]
I even tow with my motor home. With the motor home, you cannot feel the brakes, thus you don't know how bad you have 'spiked' the brakes
No hastle with the magnets, wires, break-away batteries, etc. Keep the slide lubed. The heavier the load , the better they work
