John It sounds like your building a good building. Using good quality materials is usually cheaper in the long run. The extra bracing in the corners is a good idea.
My newer sheds are taller than I think yours is. They are 16 foot to the square. On them we run a 2x6 diagonally, on the outside, from each corner up to the top of the second post from each corner. You just have to cut angles on your cross stringers on the first two posts.
The skylights your talking about will be good enough to make the inside brighter. I like the wall skylights. I do not like them in the roof. The fiberglass panels are not near as string as steel. I have seen too many fail when used in the roof.
