You might try taking the pickup tube out of the fuel tank and rig up something else to use for a pickup tube and see what that does.I worked on a truck one time that did that and thats what it turned out to be.You might have a line that isnt really tight,but you cant turn it any more with a wrench too.If you take them off one at a time,or just loosen them when its running(I dont know a lot about a mercedes)but on a Cat,that can tell you which cylinders arent working.If that works,it might just be a line.
