When I was little my sister got a rock in the radiator 10 miles from home. Dad & I got dropped off by the car with 5 gallons of water. We filled the radiator, but it leaked out by the time we got in the car.... What to do.... Dad chewed gum at the time, & being a kid I didn't know about radiator pressure so I suggested that as a patch (dad left the cap loose). Well, it got us 5 miles to the nearest garage - which told us it would be 5 days to fix, as they ship out radiators. Dad looked at the gum, hopped in the car, & we drove 10 miles to the 'big' town where they fixed it in an hour. Gum worked good as long as we were moving fast, kept it cool. My old International grain truck had the electric fuel pump die on the scale at the elevator. When it cooled I got it running long enough to drive to the other side of the building. Friday afternoon of course, what to do? Barrowed an outboard gas can from a guy & some rubber gas line, strapped the tank on the hood of the truck, and gravity-fed the carb on the way home. Worked great, but wondered just how much trouble I'd be in if the highway patrol would see me go by.... A friend was in college when their car (full of college kids) died at night on the interstate. Bit of checking & they figured the fuel pump was dead. Bit of head scratching, and they siphoned some gas, filled the washer resovoir with it, re-routed the tube to the carb, and off it went - every time the float bowl went empty & it started stalling, hit the washer button for a couple seconds.... --->Paul

Nevertheless, the heat didn't keep vendors and visitors alike from enjoying the third annual Country Day's Event. Jane Elliott said the event was originally a one man show. "Barry Seiler, owner of Country Town Farm Supply store used to invite people up to the Johne Deere store. He would give hats and a free meal for everyone that brings a tractor." Elliott said while this
