If you are going to hire a builder, check him out thouroughly. There are some really good builders out there. There are also some just waiting to take your money. If one's price is quite a bit lower than others, there is probably a reason for it. They can cut corners and you won't know it, maybe for years. However, a higher price doesn't necessarily mean a better builder either. Find 3 or 4 experienced local builders and ask for 6 to 8 references from each. Check each reference and ask lots of questions about problems during the building process and afterward. And if these problems were corrected satisfactorily. Good luck. It's great when it all goes well. And there is a certain satisfaction moving into your new house.
