I have owned both. Purchesed both new. The Dodge with the Cummins got the best mileage [on fuel that is] About 19+ vs 17.5 with the Ford. It definetly was a lugger. But it got extremely low marks in the tranny department. The day the tranny went out for the fifth time [147,000 miles] was the day I purchased the Ford. Ford. [1] Pull 10k trailer WITHOUT shifting out of overdrive. [2] never had to take the injector pump and have it recalibrated so it would move. [twice in the Dodge, both times over $400] [Ford will take a 10k load over hills [Sierra Nevada Mountains] at 6 to 8 mile per hour faster than the Dodge would do it. 8 miles of 6-7% grade at 45 vs 37] I currently have 145,000 on the Ford Powerstroke and it has been in the shop once, only for a recall! I own a Monaco Motor home with a Cummins ISC 8.3 and an Allison 3060 Tranny. 50k miles and have had no problems, except one Cummins recall. For my money, Cummins is great. Ford and the Power Stroke is super. Dodge is a lousy platform for Cummins. Dodge Ram is NOT tough. Ford will get the job done. However, if you insist upon getting two miles to the gallon better econmy, factor in $4200 in tranny repairs in 150,000 miles. Don't forget the tow bills and the rental cars!

It was on one such Saturday in the early 1940's when Sam was 16 years old that he ended up in Dennison, Kansas to watch a demonstration of a new tractor being put on by a local dealer. It was an Allis-Chalmers tractor dealership,
