I leave the marker down for two reasons. I havent come to completely trust the auto steer though it works fine. Second reason is For once, after 45 years of planting I can look ahead at a STRAIGHT mark. LOL When I plant end rows I could save the old line and go to adaptive curve, I believe it s called so auto steer will follow curves. I did use it once, worked great but it s easier to use the marker. Last spring while planting beans I turned around in the seat to watch the planter and in doing so I accidentally stepped on the foot switch and cancelled the auto steer. I watched the planter for awhile and when I turned around to look ahead I was pointed northwest instead of north. OOPS! And of course those rows were by the road. I am running on WAAS, it runs pretty darned accurate and The signal is free.
Last year I planted a 33500 pop but I backed it down a bit this spring. The talk in this area is the higher pops arent bringing in more yield for our soil type. This planter has electric motors driving the units so I can dial in a different pop for every row if I want to but I have never had the reason to do that. The picture is a little blurred. The evening light was fading away causing the camera to leave the shutter open a little l longer and i was jiggling and moving a little from the tractor motion. Took me six tries to get one this clear.
