Been a while but when I helped FIL with plowing we always plowed that way. With practice you can get the dead furrows filled pretty well with the cultipacker or disking. Always started at the old dead furrows the next year. All the fields were fenced and we used trail plows. Dad didn't like plowing the headlands so I had to wait till the grill almost hit the fence before I turned and tripped the plow. The unplowed ends left enough room to turn with the picker or binder in the fall. I take hay off that field and those three dead furrows are still there. The woodchucks prefer to burrow in them. I miss those days and working with Dad.
