Not sure about the model but a photo in my shop manual shows a large ring terminal with two small wires connected to the ground post on the front of the starter motor.
Called them component grounds.
If you where getting sparks with those wires connected to the hot post try them on the ground.
By the time the 30 series was introduced the wiring on these tractors had gotten complicated, way more than needed.
A couple I worked on with cranking issues traced back to the pto safety switch or it's wires.
