Usually old carburetors have severe wear in the throttle plate pivot bushings, allowing vacuum leaks that cancel out the effect of the idle adjustment screw. Lots of fun to manufacture new brass bushings, press them in then align the bore so the throttle don't bind. But $300?... John Ne.
