Just not a lot of money in feeding Holstein steers anytime, but if you are set up with either a tower or bunker silo that you can store high moisture ground corn meal, you can see some savings versus dry corn. Like wise , having storage structure in place to buy truck loads of dry distillers grain, bulk mineral etc, will also save a few cents per lb on feed cost. Margins are always slim, but even a slim advantage over a large number of animals, gives the larger producer the advantage over the small producers. Just economies of scale. Buy a whole truck load of some feed ingredient, you can expect to get a better price than only buying a ton or two.
