The M uses the same engine block as the 40. Some of the internal engine parts will not interchange and most are not identical part numbers. The 40 engine ran at higher RPM. The pistons from one will fit the other, but the M used cast iron pistons and the 40 used aluminum. In 1947, Nebraska test 387, the M delivered 19.49 belt HP. In third gear, the drawbar HP was 14.65. Low gear maximum pull was 2,329 pounds (horizontal pulling force). The 40 was tested in 1953. The 40S (test 504) delivered 23.21 maximum belt HP and 17.05 drawbar HP in third gear. Question: What benefit is there to anyone to offer insults along with information?
