Years ago our local radiator shop used to put gas tanks in the vat and boil them as they did radiators, then to use the torch and solder them they would take a flexible exhaust pipe and fasten it to the tailpipe of another vehicle, and start the motor, and put other end of flexible pipe into the gas tank and let the carbon monoxide go into tank while they used torch, I was told that this was the only way to apply heat to a tank, as the gas or fuel will always remain in the pores of the metal,and the carbon monoxide keeps it from exploding.You might check with your local radiator shops regarding this.Good luck
