Quoting Removed, click Modern View to seeI agree with the "slamming"! I started my Farmall SMTA off 12v a couple of times & it sounded like two freight train cars coupling! If I were to convert it to 12v, I would look into the use of shunt coil addition with a good rebuilder. My Ford 8N has been 12v for nearly 30 years and it doesn't seem unhappy, as the Farmall did.
