My 1950 Farmall C has a 6v starter. I couldn't find a 12v starter anyplace. After replacing the starter drive twice I decided to use my weakest 12v lawn mower battery and 12g wires in place of starter cables.
No longer shear off starter drives. My tractor has a mag and was designed to hand crank. So I don't have to spin tractor very fast to start.
On the other hand if you don't have a mag, going with a mower battery may not provide a hot spark without bypassing ballast resistor while cranking engine.
