Delco 10si on one of my tractors is throwing way more than 16 volts. I know it's more because the volt meter I'm using only goes to 16v and it's pegged out way past that if I let it run at much more than an idle. Also caused the tractor to run rough, so I imgine it's not doing the ignition any good. If I back it down to where it's just ticking over it's down around 12-13v. I imagine I fried it using the 12v electric winch dragging in logs. I'm just wondering what component I might have toasted? I;ll probably rebuild it, but I'm curious.
Also, should I get a larger out put alt if I'm going to use the winch a lot? I think this was a standard 50 (?) amp 10si. Would a high output alt be a better choice? I only use the winch on this one tractor (800 Ford).
