If our customers were honest on telling us they switched oil brands, I presume they were honest in telling us what brand they switched to. You would think the cheaper oils would create the most damage but this wasn't really found to be true in our experiences. But it was found true that some oils were worse than others but why I don't know. Whenever I tore down an engine that had alot of miles on it I would always ask what oil they used. I found that some oils kept the engine alot cleaner and other oils would make enteranal engine just filthy. I kept the oil filter and number of oil changes in mind when I done my tear down inspections but the situation always rang true with the oil brand type. Why that was I don't know either. I think the key here is to just use the recomended brand and weight by the manufacturer, instead of considering an off the wall brand becuase of cost or reputation. If you do that, you will be allright. If you don't, you are taking chances.
