Ian, You are on the money as to where the problem is. It is UNICODE characters generated from the ultra-modern devices, the iPhone being one of them when it uses Chrome for a browser, but eventually, all of them will. The reason that changing the browser side doesn't always work, is because these UNICODE characters actually occupy more space than good old ASCII characters, and they get messed up when the post is stored to disk. Then they don't show up correctly even if the browser is set up to accept them. Especially with Classic View, the storage method is antique.
I am trying to fix this right now. I have to intercept the characters and turn them back into the older versions of characters like quotes and apostrophes. That will eliminate the problem. Most of the time those are the characters that have to be replaced.
I've not been successful so far but I got side tracked. I'll try to get back on it tomorrow as I realize it's very irritating.
