There have been many good points made, but there are still a couple of considerations. Setting the parking brake on the truck without chocking/scotching the trailer wheels is false security. When the weight of the tractor starts to press down the rear of the trailer it may take enough weight off the trucks rear axle to let it roll or slide. One reply mentioned centering the tractor. If your vehicle cannot carry adequate tongue weight without the front end getting light you should rethink what you are pulling. A flat or blowout on the rear axle of a tandem axle trailer will shift the balance in an instant. This can result in a loss of control because the tongue may be attempting to lift the rear of the tow vehicle.
