Of course nuclear war is always at hand. Resistance to antibiotic is on the rise, pandemics lurk. Sea level rise might move millions of people inland, [ we already don't like migrants ]. An asteroid a mile or so wide would be devastating. Religious folks interpret biblical revelations to mean the end is near. Plenty to worry about. Does not mean we should not plan for a future, just in case we have one.
