I would be very careful using different paints for different coats, very likely that they will not work together and will ruin the paint job. As far as John Deere paint it is pretty much the same stuff sold at the farm supply stores. CIH paint (and I think Cat also) use acrylic enamel which still isn't anything great but is much better than the synthetic enamal John Deere and farm supply stores sell. Generally you want to use paint products that use the same hardners and reducers throughout the paint job (some primers exclude this rule) to insure the product will "get along" and not have some bad chemical reaction on your tractor.
