corrosion on points?

When I try to start John Deere 420c, that sits outdoors, once every several months...no spark!
When I measure the resistance across closed points ...infinite. If I clean the points with fine sandpaper, & reset the timing it starts right up. I've installed new points & dist. cap from JD dealer, & sprayed the outside with ignition sealer.
The Ford that sits next to it will always start right up.
Is this a weakness of JD points?
Can I treat the contacts with something that will prevent corrosion (If thats the problem)?
Is there an aftermarket supplier that makes points that will not do this?
