Your question reminds me of a friend of mine who used to swear that one Ford truck (short bed) was faster than another Ford truck (long bed). The trucks were identical, other than the difference in wheelbase. In his mind, the difference was directly related to the difference in the length of the driveshafts - the longer driveshaft somehow just could not transmit rotational motion as efficiently as the shorter shaft. All you mountain from molehill builders - don't even start with the greater surface area of the longer shaft creates more theoretical frictional resistance with the air when its turning - this fellow could not even be convinced that unless one shaft was being twisted (distorted), the rotational velocity was equal at both ends of the shaft.
