I think American farmers and manufacturers were just slow to change after getting familiar with the tricycle-type row crop tractors. Those were prevalent for, what, 30 or 40 years? Today that isn't the case. But, there are still a ton of tractors from the 1950s and 1960s doing daily service on our farms. I am not sure why the tricycle type tractors hung on for so long, but manufacturers make what sells the best, and that was tricycle row crops from the 30s through the 60s.
